Basic Dietary and Lifestyle Guidelines
/A healthy lifestyle is not about abiding to strict nutritional philosophies or guidelines or depriving yourself. It is about creating a supportive lifestyle for your body, having more energy and keeping as healthy as possible. Naturally we are all created different and what works for one person might not work for somebody else. So really our individual needs are based on our biochemical individuality. The guidelines mentioned in this post are general guidelines that can enhance anybodies lifestyle regardless of their individual differences.
Eat organic whenever you can.
Organic food contains less chemicals and pesticides and put less strain on our body. As we all know many chemicals and pesticides are cancer causing and should be avoided.
Eat a wide variety of whole foods
Whole foods are essential to a healthy lifestyle. Whole foods are as close to their natural state as possible. Stay away from over processed and highly refined foods like white flour goods or canned products that are loaded with preservatives or sugar. Minimally processed or whole foods retain most of their enzymes and nutrients and provide more nourishment to the body.
Limit sugary foods, drinks, sugar and refined grain products
Sugary foods like candy or soda, sugar and refined grain products are all broken down into glucose and rapidly absorb into our body. This spikes blood sugar levels. The pancreas has to produce larger amounts of insulin in order to keep blood sugar levels down. This continuous up and down puts a high strain on the pancreas and can lead to hypoglycemia and eventually diabetes. Replace sugar with agave, which is absorbed much slower into the bloodstream or use a sweetener made from stevia that has zero calories and does not affect blood sugar balance.
Drink more water
The average adult needs about 8 to 10 glasses of water a day. Water is essential to many functions in our body. It hydrates, flushes the system and eliminates waste and toxins.
Get moving
Regular exercise increases our metabolism and improves cardiovascular health. This allows the body to stay vital and healthier as we age.
